Doug Goldenberg and Scott Lefton weren’t sure how Chesterfield residents would respond when they announced their plan to open a neighborhood bagel shop, but at their soft opening in late March, they sold out the initial batch of 144 bagels within three hours!  That is evidence that St. Louis is ready for something different regarding the bagel experience.

Goldenberg notes that their first step will be bringing more authentic Montreal-style bagels to the area.  These bagels will be made using certified kosher ingredients and overseen by Rabbi Abraham of St. Louis Jewish Day School’s bakery.  Rabbi Abraham has been an avid producer at KSDK for over thirty years, producing every show possible, from news to specials.

According to Goldenberg, Lefty’s is widely renowned for its approach to service.  Owners are frequently present and available to talk with customers to help them find exactly what they need.

Starting a new business during an international pandemic may seem risky, but Goldenberg and Lefton claim they have had it relatively smooth thanks to The Baker’s Hub’s support and structure.  They plan to continue producing classic fan favorites as they perfect their baking methods and working patterns before expanding with other ancillary menu items.  At first, they plan on serving both regular and kosher versions while staying focused on quality to provide what should become the “best bagel in St Louis.” That should make their offerings extremely appealing – particularly to those seeking delicious breakfast treats that offer more than simply munching a regular bagel.  They can expect something tasty but also an experience.
