The atmosphere at this location is traditional fine dining.  It features low lighting, beautiful wood walls, posts, and columns, a classy bar, white linens, and a classy, well-trained staff that polishes Charlie Gitto’s experience.  Every detail is perfect and designed to create an exceptional dining experience.

There are many great Italian restaurants in the St. Louis region.  The sizeable Italian community has been in the area for decades and is hugely responsible for helping to grow and build the city.  St. Louis would not be what it is today without the great Italian Americans.

The Hill is known as the Italian district in St. Louis and is a great dining destination.

Charlie grew up in the restaurant business with his father, who owned Charlie Gitto’s Downtown.  The restaurant was famous for Cardinal game days and used to entertain many of the players and coaches.  Charlie Gitto Sr. was friends with most of them, and they helped popularize his restaurant.

The entire family has been dedicated to the restaurant industry for generations.

Charlie Gitto’s constantly in the news announcing new changes or being recognized for their historical achievements.  St. Louis Restaurant Review recently announced that he launched his private label Chianti and Pinot Grigio, along with red sauces and dressing.  You can place your order online at CharlieGittos.com.

Additionally, they will remodel this location in January 2025 but remain open to serve their loyal customers addicted to their cuisine and atmosphere.

Reservations are always recommended, but the worst case is to eat at the bar.  This is a great, fun bar with great bartenders and a gift for Gab.  But securing one with a reservation is necessary if you want a table.  This might be a fine-dining restaurant, but it is a high-volume fine-dining restaurant.

Charlie Gitto’s offers an exceptional selection of nearly 30 wines by the glass.  The white wine selection heavily emphasizes old-world varietals, with roughly two-thirds highlighting adventurous choices like Vermentino, Soave, and Gavi ki Gavi. Charlie Gitto’s is best for wine enthusiasts who want exceptional wines paired with extraordinary, award-winning Italian cuisine.

I have been eating at this establishment since the late 1980s.  Although I have traveled the country and various parts of the world, I have never encountered the dining experience they provide here.  St. Louis is lucky to have Charlie Gitto’s.
